Curriculum and Homework

The curriculum follows the Socratic Method of critical thinking, where you need to answer questions which require you to think over the subject matter deeply, form opinions, and relate your experiences to each Pillar.

You are required to complete the session curriculum at home one week prior to the actual session. You receive the curriculum book at the beginning of the year, and questions are answered through this online system (LMS).

The curriculum is divided into one Pillar per session. Each Pillar contains stories, video links, and newspaper articles to be reviewed. At the end of each section are questions which ask you to thoughtfully consider and discuss what you have just read.

The curriculum is essential to ensuring you are prepared to deeply engage with the subject matter with your mentors and peers. These answers are also used by your mentor to prepare for the session and may be reviewed and discussed at the session with your mentor.

Incomplete homework is a serious matter as:

  1. You will not be ready to engage appropriately at the session
  2. It shows disrespect for the program and your mentor
  3. It does not allow the mentor to appropriately prepare for the session
  4. Completed homework is used for final evaluations

Answers may also be evaluated in order to choose the Top Students at the end of the program.

Answers are evaluated on a 3 point system:

0 POINTS no answer—shows very little effort
1 POINTS answers question—shows some understanding of material
2 POINTS answers question—shows full understanding of material
3 POINTS answers question—shows full understanding of material, relates answer to life experiences
